Today I woke up pretty early. I wanted to get a head start on my writing. I decided that I craved a cheesy sandwich, so, lacking the ingredients for a cheesy sandwich, I settled on a breakfast of ramen.I put the ramen in some boiling water. This is the point at which I would usually walk away for about five minutes and get lost in another task - either checking my email, or writing. I have a terrible habit of walking away and coming back to scorched food.
Well this time, I did not walk away. I very attentively stirred my ramen. Just about twenty-seconds into this task, I saw some flames peeking out from under the pot. I am used to a gas stove and so I thought, oh, the flames are getting a little feisty.
Then I remembered I was using an electric range, so I pulled the ramen off of the burner and the flames shot up two feet high. So I stared at the flames for about five seconds, thinking "that is really not supposed to be happening right now."
Then I realized that if I didn't do something, the microwave would catch fire momentarily - so I grabbed a strainer to fill up with water. Then I put that strainer down and grabbed a big pot. Then I filled that with water and threw it across the stove top. The fire made a bad noise and it went out, leaving the house filled with smoke.
Now I am on the couch eating Cheerios for breakfast.

That is wise. When the kitchen catches on fire, it is definitely a cereal day.
