Well, I'm back in Los Angeles after hitting a few bumps. You may have noticed yesterday's schedule. Well, I woke up this morning about ten minutes after my 8 a.m. flight left. For some reason, I decided the best course of action was to leisurely take a bath. All of the time pressure was off!It worked out. I showed up in time for the next flight and got a great aisle seat next to an empty one. I worked on my short story for four hours. I thought about how just two years ago a cross-country flight would have seemed like an ordeal. Who can sit in a tiny cramped seat for 6 hours? Now I've taken the NYC-LA flight so many times I literally feel like I am taking a short car ride to a nearby place, nevermind the 3000 miles I've crossed.
My plane landed an hour early and here I am. Home sweet home, where it is 70 degrees in January, there is no television, occasional wifi Internet (thank you new neighbors), and a car I have to jump start every time I want to go somewhere.
All of this adds up to super productivity and extreme fitness. I go to my Hollywood apartment to think, write, be alone, run in the park, do yoga and read. It's like a country escape, except in the middle of a gigantic city.
I just came home to find 6 months worth of mail that was all supposed to be forwarded to the east coast including: two paychecks, my 2007 state tax refund, and best of all, a free flight coupon from United. For some reason, United keeps giving me free flights. Thank you United for supporting my bi-coastal life.

enjoy it (and cash it in) while it lasts. somehow i think United will have some marketing genius (now on a freelance basis) decide that because of the well known phrase: United we stand; that this is a viable paradigm for passenger assigments on future Dividend Miles awards.
I refused to fly United for ten years because they almost crashed my plane when I was thirteen, but give someone enough free flights and they will eventually come around.
